James Chen serves as vice president and general manager for First Data – Greater China, a role which he has filled since he joined First Data in October 2012. The markets in Greater China cover China mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and offer First Data great opportunities for investment and long-term growth. In this role, Chen is responsible for China’s overall development strategy and profit and loss, expanding First Data related business to Chinese banks, and promoting First Data products and services to local clients.
Prior to joining First Data, Chen served in various leadership roles at MasterCard® International for 12 years culminating with serving as the head of MasterCard (China). During his tenure at MasterCard International Chen contributed to its business expansion in China, as well as the development of China’s credit market, including collaborating with major banks in China to launch the MasterCard Platinum Card, EMV chip card/PayPass® card, MasterCard Corporate Fleet Card® Program, personalized card and the first MasterCard Titanium Card.
Chen has built strong relationships with regulatory bodies, local and foreign banks--especially banks’ credit card centres--and market share leaders across various industries. His years of industry knowledge and skill set make him an invaluable asset to First Data (China) and the clients we serve.
Chen holds a bachelor’s degree from the National Chengchi University of Taiwan.
