Perspective: First Data Climbs to 112 in 2013 InformationWeek 500

For me, awards and rankings are more than a plaque with our name on it. They are also about the businesses we help and the technologies we offer to make their daily lives easier. To create these solutions, we must invest in technology, think differently and engage our customers. I’m happy to announce a recent accomplishment that proves we’re on the right track to achieving this.

UMB Tech recently named First Data on its 2013 InformationWeek 500 list of the most innovative users of technology in the United States—our best ranking yet. Only 250 of the 500 organizations are ranked each year, and I’m very proud we’re among them.

UMB Tech likes to recognize companies across 22 industries that demonstrate innovation, and I believe what we’ve done with RapidConnectSM is a great example, and why we were recognized this year. Rapid Connect is a technological layer that enables simplified integration to First Data. It gives software developers and our merchant customers a streamlined way to create, test, certify and deliver payment-rich applications through a single interface.

Today’s consumers enjoy the convenience and rich experiences that the point of sale is becoming. Our goal is to continue helping the industry step out from behind the counter and into the future of digital commerce.

Bruce Dragt is senior vice president of payment acceptance at First Data.
