Clover® App Market Surpasses 100 Apps, Spurs Innovation
Today marks an important milestone for Clover®, the comprehensive business management solution from First Data. After a little more than a year of working with developers, the Clover App Market has officially surpassed the 100 app mark. We believe this makes Clover one of the largest merchant-facing app markets in the world. With today’s announcement of Clover® Mini, the Clover App Market is positioned for accelerating growth.
The Clover App Market transforms the merchant experience by offering a host of tools that streamline business operations. Just as smartphone app markets have changed the lives of billions of consumers around the world, the Clover App Market is doing the same for business owners everywhere. Our goal is to create a platform that will catalyze software innovation and ultimately help merchants run their businesses better.
Thanks to the Clover App Market, business owners can now offer their customers the option to provide immediate feedback, use gift card and loyalty programs, or even give to their favorite charity when checking out. Business owners gain dozens of new capabilities ranging from turning their POS system into a time clock (Homebase), integrating sales information into their accounting systems (CommerceSync), setting up their own online stores (Sell Online) and more. The Clover App Market provides a forum for developers to meet the needs of business owners and help them take business management to the next level.
A great example is GoodLabs, which has developed a platform that lets merchants connect consumers to the causes they love. Its Charity Checkout app enables merchants to accept $1 and “round-up” donations from their customers. It now supports 60,000+ local schools and 40,000+ local charities.
“The opportunity for checkout donations is massive, although to-date it has been limited to the largest retailers and non-profits,” says Daniel Hayes, CEO of GoodLabs. “With Clover, we can offer small and medium-sized businesses a way to get their customers involved with the charities they care about.”
Hayes also discussed the process of integrating with Clover. “Clover's team, from top to bottom, has been a fantastic ally, even altering some of the API's for us. With customer input routed to us through the First Data sales team, we've been able to collect valuable feedback on our Charity Checkout app from a very early stage. Clover has helped at every possible turn, providing time, resources and advice to boost our chances of success. We’re excited to grow alongside Clover."
The response from business owners who regularly use the Clover App Market has also been very positive.
“All of my boutique managers love the apps, especially the Mail Chimp one from Abreeze. Mail Chimp has streamlined our processes – before, we had to write down information manually and then upload it. Now we can automatically send the data to Mail Chimp which cuts down on time spent off the salesfloor,” said Derrick Colon, Operations Manager for North America at Uno de 50, which has installed Clover Minis in 21 of its U.S. locations.
Clover’s success in rapidly building its App Market is due to several factors. First Data has a dedicated team focused on working with developers and has approved approximately 600 developers to build for Clover in the past 14 months. As developers ourselves, we understand their needs and concerns and give developers direct access to merchants to facilitate input and feedback.
The formula is working. With more than 100 apps, we believe the Clover App Market has five times more apps than the nearest competitor. Unlike those competitors, more than two-thirds of Clover apps have been created by third-party developers.
