MasterCard and First Data Merchant Solutions Launch Pogo>™ Mobile Point-of-Sale System with The Prudential Assurance Company Limited in Hong Kong

Introducing a Seamless and Secure Mobile Payment
Experience to Local Merchants and Consumers
HONG KONG, November 6, 2013 - MasterCard and First Data Corporation today announced the launch of Pogo> Mobile Point-of-Sale (MPOS) in Hong Kong that will enhance the mobile payment experience for merchants and consumers. Leading insurance firm The Prudential Assurance Company Limited Hong Kong (Prudential) is the first enterprise Pogo> MPOS client in Hong Kong launching the service across its agency and bancassurance sales force to offer customers additional choice and convenience.
First Data’s Pogo> is an innovative MPOS payment solution, the first to be introduced by MasterCard and First Data in Hong Kong. Pogo> is an MPOS card reader that enables credit and debit signature card acceptance anywhere with wireless coverage, and via web-enabled mobile devices or tablets with smart capabilities and a mobile application. The product will be distributed by First Data Merchant Solutions, First Data’s direct-to-market merchant acquiring business.
The deployment of MPOS solutions has been significant over the past few years. MasterCard estimated that throughout 2010 and 2011, approximately 1.2 million MPOS solutions were shipped to MasterCard merchants globally. It is worth noting that about 75 percent of those merchants did not previously accept card payments, a healthy indication that MPOS has provided an alternative payment environment to enhance both the retail and payment experience for merchants and customers alike.
The Pogo> MPOS features a rich array of benefits such as:
- Hong Kong’s first and only customizable MPOS user interface: Pogo> provides customized applications that create a better user experience for consumers and enhance the overall payment experience
- Security: Pogo> features the highest level of security certification - EMV Level 2 - while maintaining a simple user experience. Cardholder data is never stored on the mobile devices so that consumers can enjoy a more flexible and secure payment experience.
- User-friendly mobility: a convenient, secure, low cost solution that enables payments on the go and drives new business opportunities through high customer engagement. No additional phone line is required as it uses the merchant’s existing mobile phone connection.
- Quality, speed and flexibility: a thoughtfully designed and rigorously tested card reader that is able to withstand thousands of transactions. Payments can be processed in real time, resulting in fast and efficient funding of merchants’ bank accounts.
