First Data Wins Best Global Prepaid Gift Programme Award
The Prepaid Awards celebrated the top payments programmes at the Lancaster London Hotel Oct. 2, 2013 and recognized First Data with the Best Global Prepaid Gift Programme, based on the work with Walmart and their flagship, closed-loop gift card programme.
First Data is proud to support Walmart as the company continues to promote innovation through their leading closed-loop programme. This is an excellent example of how prepaid cards can help retailers extend their brand, drive sales and quickly and efficiently expand into new businesses areas.

No other retailer has more deeply woven closed-loop gift cards into the fabric of their broader enterprise to address as wide of a range of consumer needs.Walmart has used closed-loop gift cards to sell not-yet-released video games in the United States, while the Walmart Foundation uses closed-loop gift cards to provide tens of thousands of American teachers with school supplies. The closed-loop gift card platform incorporates industry-leading functionality, including online reloads and eGift cards, which can be purchased from mobile apps and websites, and printed for in-store use. Walmart’s global footprint has enabled the firm to incorporate the best global practices including card design, B2B programme management, product development and consumer education.
The awards recognized First Data as a finalist in three additional categories:
Best Digital Gifting Programme for our work with sports retailer Decathlon on the SPOREKA gift card programme, a closed-loop gift solution for sports/fitness enthusiasts.
Best Prepaid Gift Programme (UK) for our work with ASDA, a UK supermarket chain owned by Walmart, and their closed-loop gift card programme.
Best Use of Prepaid in Incentive Marketing (UK) for the ASDA Pocket Money Card, a fun savings programme designed to reward children for good savings habits.
The Prepaid Awards programmes have been recognizing excellence since 2006 in around the globe, including Canada, France, India, South Africa, the U.K., and the U.S.
