6 Free & Easy Ways to Increase Discoverability Online

If you’re like most businesses, you want more traffic to your website so you can sell more.

And one of the best ways to increase website traffic is to improve your chances of being discovered online.

I have identified these six free and easy ways for your business to increase discoverability online.

#1: Mobile Optimize Your Website

So, let's start off with one of the most important things that you can do which is making sure that your website is mobile optimized.

Squarespace.com’s template options

Around April 21st, 2015, a significant tipping point occurred: more people were using mobile devices to access websites than desktop computers.

On that date, Google began placing more importance on websites that are mobile optimized.

So, if your website is not mobile optimized – meaning that it cannot be accessed by a mobile phone or a tablet or anything in between – Google may not rank you on the first page of search results.

You can optimize your website by using a website builder like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace.

#2: Optimize Your Website for Search Engines

The second most important thing you can do is to make sure that your website is optimized for search engines.

This is what's referred to as SEO or search engine optimization.

Once you build your website, you've got to go back in there and make sure that you're including keywords in your title tags, description tags, and H1 tags.

#3: Increase Website Load Speed

The third strategy is to make sure that your website loads quickly.

WebsiteScore.org

To find out how quickly your website loads, run it through a website auditor like WebsiteScore.org, which will output a report that tells you everything that you can do to enhance your website.

#4: Get on Google Maps

The fourth strategy for how to drive traffic to your website is to get on Google Maps.

Google Maps being used on a mobile device’s screen

It’s the most popular mapping system out there, pretty much everyone uses it, and if you're not listed on Google Maps, then you're missing out potentially on a lot of traffic, phone calls, and foot traffic to your business.

A little known fact about Google Maps is that it is free to get on.

All you have to do is go to Google.com/Business and follow the steps.

You do have to have a physical business, so if you have a retail store, restaurant, or even a home studio, you're eligible for Google Maps.

#5: Get on Yelp

The fifth strategy is to get on the most popular directory system in the world – Yelp.

Biz.Yelp

It’s the most popular mapping system out there, pretty much everyone uses it, and if you're not listed on Google Maps, then you're missing out potentially on a lot of traffic, phone calls, and foot traffic to your business.

A little known fact about Google Maps is that it is free to get on.

All you have to do is go to Google.com/Business and follow the steps.

Go to Biz.Yelp.com to sign up your business.

The benefit is that you get to link to your website and list your products and services. Include your photographs and respond to reviews.

#6: Start Sending Email

The sixth strategy you can do to increase your discoverability online is to start sending emails.

If you have been collecting email addresses for your business for the last couple years, it's a good time to start sending email blasts out to your subscribers.

If you have not yet started collecting email addresses, I really recommend you do that.

One of the ways you can collect emails is by putting a little bar on your website so when a visitor comes to your website, they can actually sign up for your newsletter or download a PDF. You can offer discounts on products, access to exclusive events, or anything to entice them to give you their email address.

Once you have that, you can use a system like Constant Contact or MailChimp to deliver your emails.

Both systems integrate with Clover POS, so you can collect email addresses at the time of checkout.

Both systems are really easy to use and free up to a certain amount of subscribers.

You can get started pretty much right away by uploading your subscriber list and designing your first email.
