Eckart Walther / Chief Executive Officer / CardSpring
Eckart Walther is the CEO of CardSpring, a payments infrastructure platform that makes it easy for retailers, publishers and developers to create web and mobile applications for payment cards.
Eckart began his career at GE Corporate Research and Stanford University, where he specialized in AI research and worked on one of the first multiprocessor versions of the UNIX operating system. He holds both BS and MS degrees in computer engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is one of the co-authors of the RSS Web standard.
Craig Vallorano / EVP, Business Development & Strategy / Citi Retail Services
Craig D. Vallorano is Executive Vice President for Business Development and Strategy for Retail Partner Cards, the Citi business that provides consumer and commercial credit products and services, including private label credit cards, to national and regional retailers and oil companies across the U.S. Craig is responsible for developing strategies and capabilities that expand growth for existing partners while securing new partners for Citi. He was named to this role in August 2011. In his prior role, Craig led all Partner Management activities. Major Partners included, among others, Sears/Kmart, The Home Depot, Macy’s, Shell and ExxonMobil along with nearly 30 other retail and oil partners. He assumed responsibility for this portfolio, with approximately $45 billion in managed assets, in late 2009.
Craig joined Citi in 2000 as Senior Vice President of Retail Marketing. He was later named Senior Vice President for Retail Partner Programs and in 2004 became General Manager for Citi Commerce Solutions, which included the Oil Partnership programs. In 2005 and 2006, respectively, Craig added Macy’s and Citi’s Canada Cards business to his responsibilities.
Craig is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Alisa Maclin / VP, Marketing, Smarter Commerce / IBM
Alisa Maclin is Vice President of Marketing for IBM's Smarter Commerce Initiative. Smarter Commerce is a unique approach designed to help companies better integrate and more effectively manage their value chain—including buy, market, sell, and service processes—to put the customer at the center of decisions and actions. As leader of Smarter Commerce marketing, Alisa is responsible for global marketing strategy and execution for IBM’s commerce-related product and services portfolio, including over $3B in recent acquisitions.
Previously, Alisa was Vice President of Market Strategy and Planning for IBM Global Business Services, with responsibility for developing and executing marketing strategy for IBM's consulting and application management business worldwide. Alisa has more than 20 years of global marketing and sales leadership experience at IBM, including executive roles in IBM's Software, Global Services, and Sales and Distribution divisions.
Alisa lives in Irvine, California and holds a BA in Communications Studies from UCLA and an MA in Communications Management from USC's Annenberg School for Communications.
Troy Carrothers / SVP, Retail Payment Solutions & Multi-Channel Sales & Services / Kohl's Department Stores, Inc.
As Senior Vice President, Retail Payment Solutions and Multi-Channel Sales and Services for Kohl’s, Troy Carrothers is responsible for leading the Kohl’s Card Program, managing Kohl’s credit operations, service centers, and risk management for Kohl’s and non-Kohl’s Card business in-store and online. These responsibilities include the full servicing for credit card issuance, underwriting, risk management, and third party credit card acquisition.
Troy has held management and senior management leadership roles in investments, risk management, collections, finance, underwriting, customer service, and credit operations in the U.S. and Latin America with Kohl’s, Citigroup and Fidelity Investments. Prior to entering the financial services industry, Troy worked in retail management.
As an active member of several charitable organizations for children (including Junior Achievement and Bright) and a part-time college professor, Troy is highly involved in the community. He is also on the board of several professional and charitable organizations in Wisconsin. Troy holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Texas and Thunderbird School of Global Management, respectively.
Melody Roberts / Senior Director, Experience Design Innovation / McDonald's Corporation
Over the past six years, Melody Roberts has integrated experience design into the practice of innovation at McDonald’s Corporation. Today she leads strategic cross-functional initiatives, manages the experience design team, and consults to disseminate design and innovation best practices company-wide.
Prior to McDonald’s, Melody spent seven years in design and innovation consulting. She worked at IDEO from 2004 to 2006. There she led joint IDEO/client teams in six-month to year-long design programs intended to foster a culture of customer-centered innovation within the client organization. From 1999 through 2003 she formalized and led Smart Design’s design research and new product strategy work. During this time she also managed its largest client account.
A native of Colorado, Melody earned a BA in American Studies from Yale University and a Master of Design degree in Human-Centered Product Design from Illinois Tech.
Rob Sadowski / Director, Marketing / RSA, The Security Division of EMC
Rob Sadowski is Director of Marketing, for RSA--The Security Division of EMC. Rob is responsible for marketing and go-to-market strategy for RSA's efforts to secure electronic payments, working with merchants, acquirers, associations, financial institutions, and technology providers. He represents RSA in multiple industry organizations related to payments, including the PCI Security Standards Council.
An EMC employee for over nine years, he came to RSA as part of the team that drove the creation of EMC's Security division and the acquisition of RSA. He curates the "Payment Security Focus" section of RSA's "Speaking of Security" blog and podcast.
Rob received a BA from the University of Chicago.
James L. Brown / Professor Emeritus and Consumer Advocate / University of WI – Milwaukee
James L. Brown was Director of the Center & Consumer Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a position he held from 1977 until his retirement in 2010. He also served as Associate Dean of the School of Continuing Education at UW-M from 2003-2004. Prior to joining the University, he was a staff attorney with Milwaukee Legal Services, concentrating on consumer law matters.
Professor Brown has written numerous articles on consumer financial services. He drafted or collaborated on many Wisconsin consumer protection and financial services statutes and regulations. He has testified on a variety of consumer-related matters before the Wisconsin Legislature, as well as the legislatures of California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, and New Mexico, in addition to both Houses of Congress.
He has conducted training programs or research for American Express, MAC (EFT) network, Food Marketing Institute, Ford Motor Company, Citibank, TYME, State Farm, and the United Nations, among others. He is frequently interviewed by the media on a variety of consumer-related topics, and has lectured in Belgium, Canada, Japan, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
He holds a BA in Physics from Princeton University and a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
Dickson Chu / Independent Consultant to Commerce & Payments Industry
Dickson Chu is currently an independent consultant to the commerce and payments industry. Dickson is an accomplished general manager and innovative product builder with 25 years of experience working at the intersection of financial services, customer insights and the strategic use of technology. He is an active advisor to a number of emerging companies—such as Sequent Software, Leapset and AdMobius—that are working to define the next generation of mobile commerce and advertising.
Most recently, Dickson was SVP of Merchant Solutions at LivingSocial, where he was charged with creating a new business unit to go beyond the “daily deal.” Prior to that, he was Managing Director, Digital Networks in the newly created Citi business unit, Global Enterprise Payments (GEP). In this role, he had global responsibility for leading the development of new digital payments capabilities for mobile network operators and Internet companies delivering e-Commerce, m-Commerce and P2P payment services.
Prior to joining Citi, Dickson was Vice President of Global Product and Experience for PayPal. In this role, he led product strategy, development and user experience design for the millions of PayPal consumers and merchant customers around the world. Dickson has held various senior management roles at companies such as Yahoo!, I-Impact, Wells Fargo, and CSC Index. He received a BA from St. Mary's College of California.
Larry Drury / Chief Marketing Officer / First Data
Larry Drury is the Chief Marketing Officer at First Data. Larry is responsible for expanding and managing First Data’s corporate reputation, including responsibility for corporate marketing, corporate communications and public policy.
Prior to joining First Data in 2010, Larry held a number of leadership positions throughout his career, including Global Head of Commercial Marketing and Global Head of Brand Management at Visa Inc., as well as Chief Executive Officer of the Americas at FutureBrand—a global brand consultancy.
Larry holds a Bachelor’s degree in international business and marketing from the University of Colorado and a Master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance and strategy from the University of Cape Town.
Dom Morea / Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions & Innovation / First Data
Dom Morea is Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions and Innovation at First Data. Dom has been with First Data since 2004, when he rejoined the company as Senior Vice President for product and business development.
Before joining First Data, he was Senior Vice President of strategy and business development at Encorus, a mobile payments company with operations in the U.S. and Western Europe. Prior to Encorus, Dom spent six years with First Data where he served in several key roles, including in the Internet commerce group. Previously, he held positions at CS First Boston and Citibank.
In Oct. 2010, he was elected to the Smart Card Alliance Board of Directors. Dom also serves on the Board of Directors of ViVOtech and the Nassau County Chapter of the Red Cross. He is a Cum Laude graduate of Hofstra University.
